Born into a family of writers and storytellers, is it any surprise that I published my first poem when I was 8 years old? It was a big deal to get your poem published in the paper back then, and I caught the writing bug.
In the 'swinging sixties' I followed the siren's call and hitchhiked across America, performing as a folk singer and working at a dizzying array of odd jobs along the way.
Inspired by Rod McKuen’s poetry, I continued to work in almost 100 different jobs while earning five college degrees and certificates and continuing to pursue music.
My music career failed to blossom, but my hard work paid off; I launched an award-winning career as a corporate writer on Wall Street and taught writing in several NYC area colleges.
I hold a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from Manhattanville College, and continue to study writing with the Sarah Lawrence Writing Institute. One glorious summer joined their summer session in picturesque Cetara, Italy. A fishing village so old there are still cannon balls shot by pirates in the 1200s lodged in the thick town thick walls, I fell in love with the people, food and laid-back lifestyle there.
During the pandemic, I self-published my first book, THE ABLE QUEEN, Memoirs of an Indiana Hump Pilot Lost in the Himalayas, in honor of my late father. In it, he shares his WWII memories of China, where he flew as a Hump Pilot. His journey from Indiana farm boy to a highly decorated hero of the CBI Theatre in World War II inspires many.
I am now at work on my second novel, Ghost of a Chance, slated for publication in 2025. Set in Missouri during the Civil War, it reveals a family secret kept hidden for 150 years.
