Where did the Civil War start?
"Fort Sumpter," you say. Of course... but NO, you would be wrong. The Civil War really started in Missouri and Kansas, in 1847.
Against the backdrop of this brutal early civil war that pitted neighbor against neighbor, my ancestors - The Musick, and the Geohegan families, abolitionists and simple farmers, managed to survive as danger that swirled around them, and the war drew them in.
In my new novel, Devils on Horseback, a family secret that my family kept buried for 100 years is brought to light, and the strength and resilience of ordinary farm women, the courage of the men, and the bravery of a family helped them outfox the entire Union and Confederate Armies.
This thrilling tale will come to press in 2026, watch for it: Devils on Horseback.
