My novel, The Other Side of Moonlight, takes place right here... in this abandoned barn, built by and belonging to my ancestors. The trick is to breathe new life into this old structure and listen to the amazing stories it had to tell me. Once I go tthose stories down, my writing process went something like this.
Step 1: Invoke the spirit of my ancestors, and hope they will speak to me through time and tell me what really happened that day.
Step 2: Weaving in threads of history, imagination. action create a tapestry of historical fiction that focuses on women's fiction with a time travel twist. Add a dash of fantasy for extra fun.
Step 3: Apply some of my favorite writing techniques used by my favorite authors to tell the story. These authors include: Roberston Davies, Elizabeth Gilbert, Tom Robbins, Casey McQuiston and Jimin Han.
Step 4: Fact check my historical details and timelines.
Step 5: Ready, set, Publish! Still working on that last step. Now in final reviews, the editing and publishing process has a life of its own. But like all writers driven by a passion for their story, this step will unfold.
